From Saw Mill to Masterpiece
Learn basic woodworking skills! This course is a general overview of woodworking fundamentals starting with a tree and ending with a finished product. The aim of this course is to give students an understanding of what it takes to make a wooden product starting with a freshly felled log all the way to applying a finish. We will start by selecting a project and making a lumber list and then move to the sawmill. At the mill students will learn how to select and move logs onto the mill and how to cut a log for project specific lumber. From the mill we will move into the shop to turn the rough lumber into dimensional boards using stationary tools like the bandsaw, table saw, and thickness planer. From there we will work through the steps of building the selected project using power and hand tools, and finish with the application of paint or varnish.
