Tunings

Each b.e. Harmonics instrument is hand tuned. We use a variety of tunings for different applications. If you recently purchased one of our instruments the type of tuning will be circled on your tag. Please refer to the table below to read about individual tunings. Custom tunings also available!

Just Intonation

One of our personal favorite tunings for sound therapy applications, Just Intonation is a tuning system having intervals that are acoustically pure. JI uses pure whole number ratios to define the relationships between musical ratios. In this system, intervals are tuned to produce the most harmonious and simple frequency ratios resulting in pure and resonant harmonies.

Equal Temperament

Baroque Pitch

In the period instrument movement, a modern baroque pitch of 415 Hz is commonly used.

An equal temperament is a musical temperament or tuning system that approximates just intervals by dividing an octave (or other interval) into steps such that the ratio of the frequencies of any adjacent pair of notes is the same. Some tunings in Equal Temperament include A440, A432, and A415.

Concert Pitch

A440 is the musical pitch corresponding to an audio frequency of 440 Hz, which serves as a tuning standard for the musical note of A above middle C, or A4 in scientific pitch notation. While other frequencies have been (and occasionally still are) used to tune the first A above middle C, A440 is now commonly used as a reference frequency to calibrate acoustic equipment and to tune pianos, violins, and other musical instruments

Classical pitch

A classical pitch of 427–430 Hz is used.
